Slanesville is a small census-designated place (CDP) located in the eastern part of Hampshire County, West Virginia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Slanesville was 691.
The community was named after John Slane, an early settler in the area. Slanesville was a crossroads village on the old Winchester Grade Road, which connected Winchester, Virginia to Romney, West Virginia. It remains a rural and agricultural community today, with local businesses and farms supporting the local economy.
Slanesville is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, approximately 115 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. The area is known for its natural beauty, including the Cacapon River and surrounding mountains. Slanesville is also a gateway to several recreational areas, including the Potomac-Highlands area of West Virginia.
In addition to its rural setting, Slanesville also has a rich history. The community was home to a number of Civil War skirmishes, and the historic Cedar Grove Cemetery is the final resting place for many local residents who served in both the Civil War and World War I.
